The agent should know when to stop, when to request human intervention, and when to route a case to a different queue.

5. Deployment discipline

If the architecture requires sensitive data to move into the wrong environment, the product is not ready for serious operational use.

That is why enterprise agents are fundamentally a workflow product, not just a language product.

The mistake buyers keep making

The most common failure pattern is buying a copilot and then expecting it to become a workflow system later.

That usually creates four problems:

  • no explicit escalation path
  • governance retrofitted after the pilot

At that point, the organization has to decide whether to heavily customize the tool, accept shallow usage, or start over with a better operating model.

This is not an argument against copilots. They remain useful for:

A strong strategy often uses both:
